| WONEN IN INDIË: HOUSE AND HOME
IN THE DUTCH EAST INDIES
Wonen in Indië; House and Home in the Dutch East Indies attempts to reconstruct the experience of living in a colonial home.
It localises the main activities that took place there — entertaining, relaxing, sleeping, eating, washing and playing — and catalogues the objects used in relation to them. In this first ever such study, photographer and editor have explored every nook and cranny of domestic life. Even the smallest room was deemed worth a visit. Never before has the colonial home been made the central topic of a book, nor has its household ever been portrayed in such realistic detail. The mechanisms of domestic life are described and depicted within an illuminating architectural, historical and philosophical framework.
